Canadian Energy Spending Forecasted to Fall 41% This Year
Total spending by Canadian oil and gas producers could fall 41%, or C$21B, from last year, says Rystad Energy analyst Thomas Liles. "In percentage terms, 2020 represents the most drastic spending reduction in Canada in recent memory, and far surpasses year-over-year declines of 31% in 2015 and 33% in 2009," says Liles in a research note. The firm expects oil producers to cut 1.2M barrels per day of production in 2Q, although curtailments could surpass 1.3M bpd, or almost a third of total production.
