Suncor Energy Swings to 2Q Loss as Covid-19, Supply Issues Weigh
Suncor Energy Inc. swung to a loss in the fiscal second quarter as the company was affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and global oil supply issues that contributed to a decline in commodity prices and curbed consumer demand.
"The company's results in the second quarter of 2020 were significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has lowered demand for both crude oil and refined products and, combined with the OPEC+ increase in supply, resulted in a significant decline in commodity prices, compared to the prior year quarter," Suncor Energy said.
The Canadian energy company recorded a loss of 614 million Canadian dollars ($457.9 million), or C$0.40 a share, compared with a profit of C$2.73 billion, or C$1.74 a share, in the same quarter a year ago.
